JazzMan Fred's picks for best Jazz Duo Albums

I am an avid jazz fan, and here are my personal picks for best jazz duo CD's.

1. One By One
This CD features Kevin Pike on alto sax and John Kregor on guitar. Kevin has a very melodic and creative approach to playing, and I love the arrangements here of songs not usually performed by jazz musicians (Rocket Man, Killing Me Softly). My favorite pick of 2004. Very swingin' for a duo.

2. Duet
Bireli Lagrene and Sylvain Luc perform guitar duets. Unbelievable playing on this album. Flawless technique. In a word, "wow!"

3. Duo Cesar Camargo Mariano and Romero Lubambo combine their talents on this piano-guitar duo album. Impressive playing and great arrangements on this album. They are so in synch, even on the uptempo numbers.

4. Reunion
Chicago sax man Mark Colby and Miami pianist Vince Maggio are at their best on this duo album from 1999. Lots of great jazz selections on here, including Chick Corea's "Windows" and Wayne Shorter's "Miyako". Highly recommended.

5. Bluebird
One of the best known duos in jazz today, Benny Green (piano) and Russell Malone (guitar) always make me smile when I listen to their collaborations. This is a recent release that is perhaps one of their best.
